No more Windows

Today I finally quit using Windows on my home PC. I was a Vista user since the Beta 2 release, but I had enough. Yesterday Firefox (2.x) started to crash. I tried Firefox 3, but the same result. It seemed to work OK, but after a while it just started to die (StackHash module error). So I decided it is time to move to Linux.

I am using  OpenSUSE on a laptop for two years now (and I am very happy with it) so this distro was the right choice for me.  I downloaded OpenSUSE 11.0, burned the DVD and in half an hour I had a perfectly working OS. After another hour of fine tuning everything was done.

This was the first Linux distribution that worked for me “out of the box”. It recognized every piece of hardware in my computer. I guess a regular user can have a working, rock stable,  OS with just a few clicks.

I took a few pictures of the installation process, in a future post I will try to make a short “installation tutorial”.

  2. I never said Windows is so bad. But for what I do with a computer Windows was just for “historical reasons” :)
In fact, Linux serves my needs better.

  3. Well, to be honest I love Linux too and I use it as a dual-boot option with my Windows XP but one thing is still holding me back with Linux, since I’ve got a bit older PC and Intel graphics card, current versions of Linux not perform upto the level where Windows XP performs in regards to video performance otherwise Linux is really really great. I love it.
